Launched on 18 Dec 2013, this blog is about current affairs of both past and present, and about sharing your stories, photos, videos, and healthy outrage with opinions in the pursuit of positive change. To encourage it, I have posted parts of my journal of hope called Twenty-One Years that inspired this blog, along with articles, photos, and those of others. Bad news laced with poisonous and misleading stories is easily got somewhere else. Your views are important and welcome here. Thank you.

Les Miserables 1862
“You ask me what forces me to
speak? a strange thing; my conscience.”
“A man is not idle because he is
absorbed in thought. There is visible labor and there is invisible labor.”
“There is something more terrible
than a hell of suffering--a hell of boredom. ”
“To die for lack of love is
horrible. The asphyxia of the soul.”
“Are you afraid of the good you
might do?”
“Let us fear ourselves. Prejudices
are the real robbers; vices are the real murderers. The great dangers lie
within ourselves.”
“There is always more misery among
the lower classes than there is humanity in the higher.”
“For there are many great deeds
done in the small struggles of life.”
“I was dying before you came into
my life.”
“Whether true or false, what is
said about men often has as much influence on their lives, and particularly on
their destinies, as what they do.”
“Yes, the brutalities of progress
are called revolutions”
“A smile is the same as sunshine;
it banishes winter from the human countenance.”
“Children at once accept joy and
happiness with quick familiarity, being themselves naturally all happiness and
joy. ”“To destroy abuses is not enough; Habits must also be changed. The
windmill has gone, but the wind is still there."
“To lie a little is not possible:
he who lies, lies the whole lie.”
“There is neither a foreign war nor
a civil war; there is only just and unjust war.”

Death of a Salesman
“I realized what a ridiculous lie
my whole life has been.”
“I stopped in the middle of that
building and I saw — the sky. I saw the things that I love in this world. The
work and the food and time to sit and smoke. And I looked at the pen and
said to myself, what the hell am I grabbing this for? Why am I trying to become
what I don't want to be? What am I doing in an office, making a contemptuous,
begging fool of myself, when all I want is out there, waiting for me the minute
I say I know who I am! Why can't I say that, Willy?”
“I don't say he's a great man.
Willie Loman never made a lot of money. His name was never in the paper. He's
not the finest character that ever lived. But he's a human being, and a
terrible thing is happening to him. So attention must be paid. He's not to be
allowed to fall in his grave like an old dog. Attention, attention must finally
be paid to such a person.”
“Will you let me go for Christ's
sake? Will you take that phony dream and burn it before something happens?”
“See, Biff, everybody around me is
so false that I'm constantly lowering my ideals...”
“It's a measly manner of existence. To get on that subway on the hot mornings in summer. To devote your whole life to keeping stock, or making phone calls, or selling or buying. To suffer fifty weeks of the year for a two week vacation, when all you really desire is to be outdoors, with your shirt off. And still-that's how you build a future.”

Anthony Hopkins On Noah And Life
Actor, Anthony Hopkins, 76, talking about
the film Noah in which he appears in:
"I'm not wise, I don't know anything.
I'm like Plato or Socrates - I know nothing. And I'm happier that way.
I don't watch the news, I don't read
stuff. They say there's controversy about the film - it's none of my business.
"People say 'What are you going to do
next?' I say, I don't know, I'm going to have a cup of tea. I don't go on
beyond today, I don't care. I'm indifferent to it.
People say, 'Are you excited about this
film?' I say 'Hmm, yeah,' just to show some kind of enthusiasm.
But basically this is it, this is who I
am. And I'm lucky to be here, I'm lucky they still employ me.
And I've had a great life, I've had a
wonderful life, but I can't take any of it seriously.
