Barry Clifford: Laws That Are Bonkers And Wrong

272 people were in prison in the Republic Of Ireland in 2012 for the non-payment of their TV license, and now soon, whether you have a television or not, you will face prison if you do not pay the ‘Communication license’ which covers everything from a foghorn to an Iphone. The cost to imprison these dastardly criminals is on average €180 per day or €5450 per month. To process the shamed prisoner also costs on average of €150 in Taxis, there and back, not to mention a police escort as well. It gets worse than this.

In Northern Ireland, between November 2011 and June 2013, people have gone to prison for begging, not wearing a seatbelt, and dangerous cycling. One man went to prison because of a dirty windscreen, another for parking on a double yellow line and 11 more for begging. It even gets worse than this.

I have just been told by my bank that my missed mortgage payments are at a serious level, and if I choose not to pay up, legal proceedings will commence immediately to re-possess my house; and any outstanding monies owed after they sell it, I will be liable for that amount as well.
The amount owed is the grand total of: €0.38 or thirty eight cents, and this is not a misprint.
