A story does not have to be true, but it has to be believed- Sinn Fein V Independent

In yesterdays Irish Independent, their smear/hate campaign against Sinn Fein continues unabated. This will not change, ever. Here they trotted out Leo Varadkar in a friendly interview, all the while calling him doctor as if this will elevate his standing to the reader. Of course the juvenile Leo, seduced by this courtesy, acted like a trained monkey and denounced Sinn Fein from hidden cue cards. It went something like this:
                                                                           Gerry Adams

“Sinn Fein is a damaged party that cannot be trusted. Ireland does not need another Taoiseach who gets dig-outs from his friends when he skips the country. (to get a much needed medical procedure) We need a Taoiseach who has faith and confidence in our own  country. A true patriot like our Taoiseach, not a self-serving phoney like Mr Adams." What ????

Gerry, in fine form after his prostrate medical procedure, retorted with jest: “It was disappointing but not surprising that the health minister 'was stooping to personalised attacks. It is a mark of political bankruptcy to attack one's opponent rather than the arguments of that opponent. The fact is this Government is wedded to austerity and the price that citizens are paying is evident in the record number of citizens languishing on trolleys in our hospital corridors; by the many citizens waiting for elective surgery; and by others who can't be sent home, even though they have been medically discharged, because this Government hasn't given them protections they deserve.”

Feeling a bit miffed that the incompetent and politically impotent Leo was outdone, the Irish Independent needed more poison, so it was back to the imaginary Provos for a the skull and crossbones. Today's headline screamed: Provo’s new ‘dirty war’ on 60,000 household. Jim Cusack, the scribe on this one, was on to them at last.

Jim was not aware there was even a peace agreement at all or that you even needed proof to write a story, so as usual, he was not going to let a few facts get in the way. This is the salient points of that article: A few photos of a truck as proof that it was the provo’s; some pointers of what sludge does to children and adults; a few remarks about strange suits and the Ebola virus and also that the Irish Independent had warned us before about these dodgy provo’s.
Gerry Adams was miffed and remarked, quite rightly may I add: “This report is unfounded and it is the Independent again whipping up hysteria.” Tommy Sharkey, a local Sinn Fein councillor called it “Crank journalism.”  I thought both were being very very nice. But The Independent had proof, yes proof!!!

No, not the usual elements of proof like fingerprints. This is not CSI here after all! The proof: ‘Garda sources’ and one 'exclusive' photo of men wearing suits and ‘suspected’ men of being involved. Think Ian Bailey here, the Kerry babies, the donegal night club owner and a few very thick cops. An unnamed Gardai blamed the lot on provisional IRA gangsters, though there were suspicions that a few leprechauns were seen lurking about in the area as well. Everyone apparently were in fear and would not offer up any stories, true or false, to the Independent in case it would bring them bad luck from the fairies.

The unnamed Garda source, whistleblower, blackguard, traitor, and who dared not even use the term IRA, said: "You won't get anyone to speak out against them here.” This religious story continued in lurid vein without any proof whatsoever. Ultimately the Irish Independent have no concern whether this or other stories are all lies, which they absolutely are, they just have to be believed; if the latest weekly polls by the Independent are anything to go by, thankfully they are not.
